The Marble Carving of Fleur Palau
The sculpture of Fleur Palau is a dialoge in harmony of form. Marble is carved to reveal a massive and simple aesthetic giving homage to the archaic classical world. Palau's work retains its own independence and speaks on its own terms of the human condition. The natural world as a subject and it's juxtaposition of volumes is studied.

The white statuary marble quarried from the Apuan Alps in Tuscany boarders the Tirreanean sea. The grain is tight and the crystal small giving it a luminous quality and lending itself to detail and a sensitive surface. There can be some mineral deposits which create some veining.

The sculptures of Palau are carved from this material. Palau goes up to the quarries and brings the stone down to the studio where she has maintained a home for 20 years. Recently, she has moved back to New Hampshire where she has set up a studio to continue carving.
